Description

The book by French lawyer, statesman, former Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Constitutional Council of France R. Badenter is dedicated to the struggle for the abolition of the death penalty in France. Together with the author, we are as if present at real criminal trials of that time, we also learn about the attitude of famous politicians and presidents of France to this issue. The book ends in September 1981, when, after F. Mitterrand came to power, Minister of Justice R. Badenter passed a law on the abolition of the death penalty in parliament.
France became the 35th country to do this. Today, the death penalty has been abolished in 140 countries around the world, including Ukraine. The abolition of the death penalty has become a common law of a united Europe.
The book calls for a humane attitude towards a person, even one who has committed a crime. Impressive, exciting, like a detective story, this work will be interesting for lawyers, especially attorneys, as well as all those who are interested in legal problems.
The book received one of the most prestigious awards in Europe — the Femina in the essay genre for 2000.
