The book 1,000,000 bombs BEFORE unfolds before us the atlas of Ukraine until the morning of February 24, 2022.
For five years in a row, Vlad Vasylkevych has been collecting the visual history of Ukraine. In this book, you will see our country through the lens of his camera. You will see it and fall in love again.
In the East - the snow-white Belokuzminivka chalk cliffs, the Alekseevsky fortress and the Kytsivka desert, the wavy lines of the Siversky Donets. In the North - fabulous ravines, the rapid rivers Uzh and Desna and the creations of human talent - stone palaces and the citadel in Baturyn. Majestic Kyiv. Further, in the Center - the picturesque and legendary Bakota, mills and islands, flowering estates. In the South - the salt lakes of the Kherson region, the lighthouses of Bessarabia and the protected Kinburn spits. And then the West with age-old spruces, with mountains that cut into the sky, with blue lakes, the tops of houses, velvet pastures and a colorful carpet of various grasses.
When we hand over this book to print, it is autumn 2023 outside. The fields are riddled with craters from shells, pastures and forests are mined, part of our territory is occupied, homes are destroyed, unique historical monuments are lost.
But the struggle continues. Ukraine is fighting. For itself. For its freedom. For the entire free world, impressing it with its courage. Courage. Devotion. Thirst for life.
The photos of this book remind us of the beauty of our native land. They speak to every heart. They fascinate. They inspire us not to stop, not to give up, not to lose heart. So that one day there will be Victory. And after it — the great Ukrainian Renaissance. From the house to the factory, from the river to the forest, from the museum to the field.
Then Vlad Vasylkevych will again take up the camera and take new pictures.
