"War Alphabet" is one of the stories of the russian-Ukrainian war. It started writing back in 2015 when Yevhen Stepanenko was fighting in the East of Ukraine as part of a medic unit, and his daughter Solia was waiting for her dad from the front in peaceful Kyiv. This is an honest and touching conversation about war and life for everyone: both children and adults.
The book is structured like an alphabet, where each letter is one of the dimensions of war and peace around war. It intertwines the life of a child in a peaceful city and the life of a father at war. Solia calls her dad at the front, writes text messages and letters, talks about her affairs, school, friends, competitions, dances, and pets, and also asks childish and non-childish questions about the war. How does Dad live there with his brothers and sisters? Are there children at war? What do they eat at war? Is it possible to cheat in war? Will Dad be different after the war? And Dad simply and honestly, and at the same time carefully explains everything in the world to his daughter.
