Jorge Luis Borges (1899-1986) is an Argentine prose writer and poet who had a huge influence on 20th-century literature. One of the most prominent philosophers of the last century, Michel Foucault, notes that Borges “has shaken all the skills of our thinking and shakes all the coordinates and planes.” In his fantastic, psychological, adventure, and detective works, which are included in this edition, he subtly mixes truth and fiction, shows what the human mind is capable of, what a flight of fantasy can be. The writer seems to not notice everyday life. His stories about the life dramas of ordinary characters are always extreme situations that push the heroes to unexpected actions even for themselves.
