Amadis of Gaul

In the long history of European prose, there are not many works more influential and popular than the chivalric novel Amadis of Gaul. Of course, the hero of this novel, Amadis of Gaul, became the most famous and bravest knight in the entire Spanish-speaking (and not only) literary tradition, that is, until the reasonable lord of La Mancha decided to imitate him. Although the original author of the novel is unknown (Garci Ordoñez de Montalvo is partly the nominal author), this did not prevent "Amadis of Gaul" from becoming the first great bestseller of the printing age. Subsequently, the novel was translated into dozens of languages ​​and for several centuries gave rise to sequels and imitations.
