The novel “The Angel and the Donkey. With Poems about Fire and Water” is a multi-layered story of journeys and returns, of memory and creativity, of deep meanings and symbols. Here, the private is intertwined with the historical, and time and space — Buchach, Jerusalem — become the backdrop for multiculturalism, parables, and intellectual reflections.
Writer Viktor Preisner lives on the outskirts of Riverhead, in a quiet, picturesque place. The novel about the Gospel times, on which he has been working for several years, is to become a landmark in his work. In front of Viktor Preisner on his desk are figurines of an angel and a donkey, which he once bought in Jerusalem. He will later be able to find these same figurines in a house that will be destroyed by a storm. But what will be the fate of his novel?
