In the book "Archaeology of Communism", the well-known historian Karl Schlögel brings to light the forgotten markers of everyday life in the Soviet era: queues, communal apartments, parades and demonstrations, wrapping paper, shortages, palm trees in the lobbies of ministries, the voice of announcer Levitan, the intimate restaurant sound of pop music... Author , not weighed down by the burden of naive nostalgia for the "bright past", reveals the absurdity and danger hidden behind these phenomena: the blurring of the boundaries between private and public, real and false, human and imposed by the system. For a long time, no attention was paid to them, but in fact, they help to connect different facets of Soviet reality, its iconic moments and everyday life. After all, the analysis of Soviet everyday life has another goal for the author: "We are not only interested in what the Russian 20th century was like, but we would first of all like to get information or at least some evidence about the current state of affairs in modern Russia."
