"Arsene Lupin, gentleman-cambrioleur" (1907) is the first in a series of detective stories by the French writer Maurice Leblanc (1864-1941). First published in the magazine "Je sais tout" ("I know everything") in July 1905, they brought their author worldwide fame. The hero of the nine novels is an unsurpassed robber, a kind of "tumbleweed", who is guided only by his own code of honor and, most importantly, is never used to retreating. His adventures acquire a special intrigue when it comes to a kind of game of "cops and thieves" and the invincible English detective Sherlock Holmes grows up on the path of the ingenious adventurer. Will the gentleman robber be able to outwit the famous gentleman from Baker Street (although his name has been changed - by the way, due to Conan Doyle's protest - it is not difficult to understand that this is exactly what we are talking about!)? Be that as it may, millions of fans of Maurice Leblanc and his charming hero Arsene Lupin have been wondering for almost a century how this duel will end, and, however, it still does not end. A wonderful entertainment for lovers of a thrilling plot and beautiful words at the same time.
