For the first time, the Ukrainian reader is offered a direct translation from Sanskrit of the Bhagavad Gita, one of the most famous sacred books of Hinduism. For centuries, Indians have turned to it in search of answers to the most intimate questions of existence; it inspired Indian patriots to fight for the independence of their homeland. Outside India, the Bhagavad Gita was admired by prominent philosophers, poets, writers, and scientists. In Ukraine, the philosopher and theologian Orest Novytsky wrote about the Bhagavad Gita as early as 1844; Lesya Ukrainka also quoted this book. However, in the thirties of the last century, the NKVD dealt a devastating blow to Indology in Ukraine, the consequences of which should be helped, in particular, by this translation.
The publication is intended for a wide range of readers. The translation is accompanied by an explanatory article and appendices.
