"Hundreds of years ago there were hordes of Polovtsians, Tatars, Huns, tens of years ago there were swarms of locusts, but where are all the fears and ulcers now?"
The works of Mykhailo Yatskov, a member of the modernist association "Young Muse" at the beginning of the 20th century, combine elements of modernity and tradition, realism and modernism. Duality is visible both in his work and in his life. This is the tension between the aesthetic and the political, between art for art's sake and the turbulent reality that man faced at the beginning of the last century.
In this edition, Yatskov's works are collected, which reflect this thematic spectrum: from the story "Horlitsa" - one of the few texts in Ukrainian literature, where the experience of the First World War is understood, to short stories, where the central issue is the psychology of creativity.
