Description

The translator leaves New York and comes to The Hague to work at the International Court of Justice. With knowledge of languages and experience of living in different countries, she is looking for a place that she can finally call home. Several personal dramas are swirling around in The Hague at once. Her lover, Adrian, has broken up with his wife, but is still entangled in the marriage. Her friend Yana witnesses a seemingly random act of violence, a crime in which the translator becomes increasingly interested. In addition, she was asked to translate for a former president accused of war crimes and genocide. This is a story about the closeness of an observer to events of various scales — from family betrayals to the fate of an entire country.
