The tonnage of American aircraft carriers has increased almost eightfold in recent decades. Modern patrol ships are larger than some cruisers of the 19th century. This is only one aspect of the development that this technique is undergoing, competing not only with each other but also with tanks, missiles, bombers, drones, intelligence and diplomats, soft loans, and trade embargoes.
In this book, military expert Maksym Palamarchuk describes the evolution of the main warships in the strategic environment, as a result of the interaction of numerous multidirectional influences: politics, technologies, state budgets, admirals' views on the tactics of using the fleet and, last but not least, the laws and contingencies of war.
Maksym Palamarchuk is the head of the Center for Foreign Policy Research at the National Institute for Strategic Studies. He worked in the Apparatus of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine. Author of the book "Naval Power and its Limits".
