Description

The book completes the publication of the most recent Ukrainian translation of Dante's Divine Comedy by Maksym Strykha ("Inferno" and "Purgatory" were published by the Astrolabia publishing house in 2013 and 2014, respectively). The main goal of this translation was not only to adequately reproduce the content and poetic form of Dante's masterpiece, but also to give the reader an idea of the living, not yet cooled "magma" of the Italian language just "sculpted" by the poet - in a combination of the most diverse styles (from the highest to the lowest) and sometimes even in certain errors in relation to today's established literary norms. At the same time, this book, like "Inferno" and "Purgatory" before it, contains a detailed preface dedicated to the place of "Paradise" - the most difficult part of Dante's masterpiece to perceive - in the artistic integrity of the "Divine Comedy". Among the appendices is the completion of the publication of an anthology of Ukrainian poems related to Dante, written over the past 150 years, edited by Maksym Strykha. As well as two essays about Dante, written by two prominent poets of the 20th century — Thomas Stearns Eliot and Vasyl Barka.
