In the third book, A Gentleman's Proposal, Julia Quinn continues to introduce us to the lives of each of the younger Bridgertons, this time reaching Benedict and his search for love.
Sophie's story is somewhat reminiscent of "Cinderella", however, more sensual and dramatic. The illegitimate daughter of the count, the main character lives with him as a ward and studies together with her stepsisters, which, to put it mildly, does not please the stepmother. When the father dies, the wife shows her true colors. However, one evening the servants conspire to send Sophie to a masquerade ball at the Bridgertons, where she meets Benedict. And it happens: fairy-tale love at first sight.
Sophie rushes home because she has to be home before the rest of her family. Like every child, she must have read the fairy tale about Cinderella as a child, and so, inspired by the plot, she leaves Benedict a glove that does not really give him any clues about her identity. But the stepmother finds out about even such a trifle and kicks the girl out of the house, who from then on becomes a maid.
The regency era with its stable social hierarchy seems to make a happy ending impossible, but will Benedict abandon his dreams of Cinderella when he learns that she has a pumpkin instead of a carriage?
