Maya was in her senior year when her best friend Aubrey suddenly died in front of her, while talking to a mysterious man named Frank. The police never found out the cause of death.

Seven years later, Maya lives in Boston with her boyfriend and one day learns of a new mysterious death of a young woman in the presence of the same Frank. This forces Maya to return to the events of her adolescence. The girl goes to her hometown to immerse herself in the memories of that fateful summer, the influence that Frank had on her and the destructive jealousy that almost destroyed her friendship with Aubrey.

At her mother's house, Maya begins to restore fragments of the past and finds hidden messages in her late father's book that previously remained unnoticed. To save herself, she must understand a story written before she was born, but time keeps slipping away, and all roads lead back to Frank's cabin hidden among the pines and to the man she's tried to erase from her memory.
