In September 1989, seventeen-year-old Silva disappears in a small Croatian town during a fishing festival. The investigation on hot leads does not yield any results. Meanwhile, the tumultuous political events in Croatia - the collapse of the system, social changes and war - begin to overshadow this tragic case, which is later forgotten by everyone, except for Silva's relatives, who continue the search.
The novel "Red Water" is a twenty-seven-year story of one family, the search for answers, the destinies of people somehow connected with Sylvia and her disappearance. At the same time, it is the almost thirty-year tragic history of Croatia, against the background of which the events of the novel develop.
Juritsa Pavychych's novel "Red Water" was awarded the French prize as the best translated crime novel of 2021.
