A few months after fleeing his own people, Kellen finds himself a criminal. A criminal even worse than he was as a mage... It doesn't help that his only allies are a boastful card player and a thieving white whale. He then meets Senera, a blindfolded girl with many secrets. Together, they find themselves embroiled in a conspiracy of magic, blackmail, and murder. Now Kellen must find the mage responsible before the entire frontier falls victim to a mystical plague known as the Black Shadow.
