Twenty-year-old Anna goes to a Korean orphanage to find out at least something about the mother she never knew. But it turns out that the woman is already dead. Only a mysterious stranger pushes Anna not to stop searching and gives her an old comb and a piece of paper with the address of Jae Hee - a woman who shares with Anna a story full of pain and courage about the past. Her story begins during the Japanese occupation of Korea and China, when thousands of women, cynically called "comfort women", became victims of sexual slavery. Step by step, Anna immerses herself in the tragic history of her people and discovers the shocking truth about her own origins and about the very comb, which turns out to be a symbol of a painful but magnificent heritage. With him, she inherits not only memory, but also strength, dignity, and the ability to resist - all that forms her new, deeper essence.
