Description

Oksana Masters is one of the most titled paraathletes in the history of world sports, born in Ukraine. Due to congenital malformations caused by the Chernobyl disaster, her biological parents abandoned her in the maternity ward. In orphanages in the Khmelnytskyi region, she suffered from hunger, bullying and violence. When Oksana turned eight, she was adopted by an American, Gay Masters. In the USA, the girl fought for recognition among her peers, survived leg amputations, acceptance of her body, lack of money and abusive relationships. Sport and Gay's support helped her overcome pain and realize herself. Since 2012, Oksana has won 19 medals at the Paralympic Games in rowing, cross-country skiing, biathlon and cycling. In 2015, she visited Ukraine, met with orphaned children and wounded soldiers, and told them how to emerge from the darkness and live life to the fullest.

This memoir is a true and incredibly inspiring story about overcoming difficult life challenges and hellish pain with the help of willpower and motherly love.
