At first glance, the Brazilian novel "Dom Casmurro" is a classic love story about jealousy. And yet, in some ways, the practical manner of the story is reminiscent of Woody Allen's films and Marcel Proust's novels at the same time: the slow rhythm, full of details, shades of emotional states, and the thoughts of the main character allow you to immerse the reader in a family drama that lasts no less than life itself.
It seems as if Machado de Assis is ahead of his time, and if it were not for the content that takes us to the realities of the 19th century, the reader would never have guessed that the novel was written in 1889. Throughout the novel, the author skillfully keeps the reader in a state of uncertainty and invites you to put together all the puzzles and thus get your unique final picture.
