December 1943. Auschwitz.
A Nazi doctor who experimented on twin children alongside the infamous Josef Mengele is found dead under mysterious circumstances. Famous Berlin criminalist Hugo Fischer arrives at the concentration camp to investigate a suspicious death on hot pursuit. There he encounters not only a mysterious murder, but also a hellish reality that he has only known about through hearsay. Hugo has a secret of his own: he suffers from a degenerative disease. The only way for him to survive is to help the Reich and hide his illness.
During the investigation, Hugo meets Joel, a Jewish prisoner boy with rare-colored eyes who has a talent for drawing. It was he who found the doctor's corpse and sketched the crime scene. A friendship develops between them, prompting Hugo to rebel against the inhuman.
Inspired by the author's family history, this action-packed novel is for those interested in historical fiction and for those who enjoy intricate detective stories.
