It is to Edgar Allan Poe that we owe the introduction of whimsical prose in all its variety to a radically different aesthetic level, and it was his work that significantly influenced many writers, poets, musicians, and artists, and another famous representative of the literature of the whimsical and otherworldly, Howard Phillips Lovecraft, called By his literary mentor, without whom most of his works would not exist.
Edgar Poe's stories are based on mysterious, mystical, and unusual events that are beyond the limits of ordinary life experiences, he is interested in the topic of death, its mystery and fundamental unrecognizability, as well as mournful and tragic moods inherent in the direction of romanticism. Despite the fact that during his lifetime Poe was better known as a literary critic, he entered the world literary canon precisely as a glorifier of the mysterious, otherworldly, romantic, and tragic.
