"And Leviathan Awakens" is the first novel in the "Expansion" series by American science fiction writers Daniel Abraham and Ty Frank, who removed the pseudonym James S. A. Corey. By genre, this work, like the entire subsequent series, is a rather harmonious combination of "hard" fiction, space opera, horror, stylish noir detective and action. James Golden is the charismatic old man of the Canterbury Ice Truck. Returning with the cargo to Ceres, Golden and the team come across the abandoned transporter "Scopula" - and find themselves at the very center of a large-scale conspiracy that will upset the precarious political balance between Earth and Mars for a century and a half. Joe Miller - an experienced homicide detective on Ceres - is assigned to find and bring home Julie Mao, the daughter of the owner of a powerful Earth corporation. But as soon as Golden announces his discovery to the entire solar system, Ceres is engulfed in riots. Everyone prefers to forget about the search for the girl - except for Miller himself. Her last voyage was the ship "Skopuli". Golden and Miller will have to cross the chasm to untangle a tangle of intrigue, in which governments, corporations, bandit rebels and an ancient threat that has been stalking humanity long before its appearance are intertwined.
