Description

Emma Woodhouse is a charming young person who adores managing other people's destinies. She does this by no means out of bad temper or malice, on the contrary - she likes to arrange happy, in her opinion, marriages so much. Believing that she managed it as best as possible once, she decides to continue connecting other people's destinies, but prefers not to think about her own marriage. But fate will treat her beliefs with mockery and, of course, the charming Miss Woodhouse will not look as if she herself will fall in love. When thinking about marriage, Emma first of all takes into account the social position, education, manners and fortune of a potential candidate. But everything indicates that calculations in these cases are destined to take the last place.

"Emma" is the fourth major novel by Jane Austen, completed in 1815. The novel, written after Austen moved to Chawton, was the last to be published during her lifetime.

The Ukrainian reader is offered a masterly translation by Anna Vovchenko, known in particular as the translator of the Lucy-Maud Montgomery cycle "Anne of Green Roofs" (first published in Ukrainian by our publishing house in 2012).

The work was repeatedly screened for a number of films, series and plays.
