Description

"The Age of Innocence" is the most famous of the novels of the outstanding American writer Edith Wharton (1862–1937), which is rightfully considered a masterpiece. The action of the novel develops in the 70s of the 19th century, and its characters belong to the top of American society of that time - mannered, deeply traditional, deaf to new trends. It is not surprising that the main characters inevitably find themselves in conflict with their environment and are forced to make difficult choices. A wonderful plot, refined writing skills, insightful and psychologically reliable images of the characters - all this brought Edith Wharton the Pulitzer Prize in 1921, the first time in history awarded to a woman.

The popularity of "The Age of Innocence" is still huge today - this was helped by the brilliant film adaptation made in 1993 by director Martin Scorsese and starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Winona Ryder.
