The history of Ukrainian clothing dates back more than one millennium. Even in ancient times, our people created original models of clothes, shoes, and accessories, which were embodied in further versions of traditional costumes. At different times, in different areas, Ukrainian clothing developed in its own way and was enriched with original features inherent to the population of one or another area and assimilated the experience and aesthetics of diverse cultures. The history of clothing is inseparable from the history of the people, from their psychological, aesthetic, spiritual aspirations, and inexhaustible creative potential.

Only through the history of clothing can you get a complete picture of the history of the nation, the state, and the world.

The work uses materials from museums, foundations, libraries of Ukraine, Canada, the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the private collections of PLATAR, Stella Benyaminova, the work of the People's Master Valentina Anuarova-Lisokolenko, as well as a collection of reconstructions in the material of the historical costume of the Mykhailo Boychuk's Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design.
