Johann Wolfgang Goethe (1749-1832) is a philosopher, thinker, educator and, most importantly, a brilliant German writer, playwright and poet whose works are immortal. On his main book - the poem "Faust" - Goethe worked for about six decades, in fact, all his life, starting at the age of 20.
The plot of the tragedy is taken from a German book about a doctor-alchemist. Faust lived in the 16th century, had the fame of a magician and sorcerer and sold his soul to the devil. There were legends about him, many authors turned to his image. Goethe's "Faust" is a dramatic epic about Man, the high and low of his passions, the endless search for truth, ups and downs, finding Freedom and Love. It combined high poetry, classical perfection and the deepest philosophical thought and became the pinnacle of world literature.
