"The Financier" (1912) is the first novel of the cycle "Trilogy of Desire" by the outstanding American writer Theodore Dreiser (1871-1945), which is based on the life story of the American millionaire Charles Yerkes.
The main character of the novel, Frank Copperwood, begins to engage in commerce while still at school, and when he becomes an adult, he switches to stock market speculation. And although he is tried for breaking the law and goes to prison, the hero does not feel guilty at all. After getting out of prison, he takes his chance to make a lot of money during the banking crisis. Now he feels like a real winner.
