Description

Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (1797–1851) was an English novelist, short story writer, playwright, essayist, and biographer. Mary is best known for her Gothic novel Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus (1818), which is considered an early example of science fiction.

In this work, the author raises the issue of the dangers of knowledge and demonstrates the likely consequences of trying on the role of God: the novel beautifully conveys the fears of scientific progress and the spread of knowledge. Victor Frankenstein stands on a par with God, creating a new life in the form of a monster. Victor stops at nothing to achieve his goal, but in the end remains disappointed with the result of his work - the burden of responsibility for the life he has created destroys all his plans.
