Description

The English-language edition of Kazimir Malevich’s autobiographical texts (previously published in “Malevich. Autobiographical Notes 1918–1933”), edited by Peter Doroshenko, director of the Ukrainian Museum in New York, with his introduction, as well as an afterword and comments by the co-founder of the Malevich Institute, Tetiana Filevska, offers a rereading of Malevich’s legacy through a decolonization lens, emphasizing the importance of his early experiences and how the Ukrainian cultural environment influenced his aesthetic ideas and philosophical worldview. This, according to the researchers, allows not only to better understand Malevich himself, but also to enrich the understanding of Ukrainian identity in the 20th century and to more fully paint a complex picture of artistic development in Ukraine.
