The "Iliad" tells about the exploits of the victors in the Trojan War, which was triggered by the abduction of the Beautiful Helen. Led by the Mycenaean leader Agamemnon, the Achaeans besiege the city of Troy. The siege lasted for ten years, but neither the Achaeans nor the Trojans could win. Pictures of heroic duels alternate with pictures of peaceful life in besieged Troy, as well as humorous scenes of the dispute between the gods on Olympus.
This epic, translated into many languages of the world, went far beyond the boundaries of national Greek literature and, thanks to its artistic merits and historical value, took an honorable place in the treasury of world literature.
Homer (VIII-VII centuries BC) is an outstanding legendary blind singer of antiquity and probably the most famous poet in the world. For many generations, acquaintance with ancient culture and world literature always begins with Homer's poems "Iliad" and "Odyssey", which belong to the genre of heroic epics.
