The first part of the series "The Sun Eater"
This was not his war.
Having found himself on the wrong planet, but at the right time and for the best reasons, Adrian Marlowe set out on a path that could only end in fire.
The galaxy remembers him as a hero - the man who destroyed the last alien sielsin. It also remembers him as a monster - the one who, contrary to the orders of the Empire, destroyed the star, condemning four billion people to death along with the Emperor himself.
But Adrian was not a hero. He was not a monster. And he was not even a soldier.
Fleeing from his father and a future in which he was to become an executioner, he finds himself on a distant abandoned planet. Here he must survive as a gladiator, become embroiled in the intrigues of a foreign court, and ultimately fight a war he did not start, for an Empire he does not love, against an enemy he will never truly understand.
“Christopher Ruocchio’s The Silent Empire is an epic space opera in the tradition of Ian M. Banks and Frank Herbert’s Dune, yet it is not a copycat of either. Ruocchio is a new, distinctive voice in science fiction.”
— Eric Flint, bestselling author of the 1632 series
