The encyclopedic edition "History of Philosophy" edited by Umberto Eco and Ricardo Fedriga tells about the development of philosophical thought from Antiquity to Modern Times and consists of three volumes. When primitive man had the opportunity to think not only about survival, he wondered why he came to this world and who created everything that surrounds him - it was then, one could say, that philosophy as such was born. According to the original etymology, the term "philosophy" means "love of knowledge". Man has always wanted to know: is there justice in this world? Why is it necessary to suffer? Is there life after death? What is the soul and where does it reside? What is truth? This list can be continued endlessly: all these are philosophical questions, and you don't need to be a philosophy professor to ask them. They interest each of us because philosophy, above all, helps us get used to abstract thinking. The history of philosophy begins with the Greeks. It was their thought that created the space of thought of the Western world, and only by understanding how the Greeks thought can we understand how thinking developed over the next almost three millennia.
