The project "History of European Civilization" covers the period from ancient times to the 20th century and is divided into three main blocks: Antiquity (3 volumes - the Middle East, Greece, Rome), the Middle Ages (4 volumes - the Early Middle Ages, the High Middle Ages, the Late Middle Ages, the 15th century) and the Modernity (5 volumes - the 16th-20th centuries). When creating this extraordinary project, its compiler - the outstanding Italian philosopher, literary critic, writer Umberto Eco - was guided by the multidisciplinary principle: History, Philosophy, Mythology and Religion, Fine Arts, Literature, Science and Technology, Music. Articles for the disciplines are written by leading Italian specialists in each field.

"History of European Civilization. Greece" is a modern encyclopedia of European history, which provides a complete picture of the political, military and cultural world of Ancient Greece from the beginning of the palace phase of the Minoan civilization (about 2000 BC) to the end of the Achaean War, the last attempt at an open uprising against Rome (146 BC).
