Tokyo teenager Tamura is running away from a gloomy prophecy: the boy's father believes that he will die at the hands of his own son, after which he will enter into a relationship with his mother and sister. Terrified of the fate of a modern Oedipus, Tamura leaves the city and hides under a new name - Kafka. In Takamatsu, Kafka meets the director of a private library, Ms. Saeki, and the young Sakura. But something strange happens: he begins to consider these women his mother and sister.
The young man's life is filled with mysterious events. The afterlife calls him into its arms. One day, the boy comes to his senses in a park, stained with someone's blood. Someone has opened a passage to an unknown world, and Kafka has only to take a step into the unknown.
