Hnat Khotkevych is a bandurist, ethnographer, theater figure, composer and translator. A native of Kharkiv who subtly felt the Hutsul soul.

At the center of one of the author's most famous texts is a young orphan, Marusya, who becomes the wife of a priest and moves to Kryvorivna, where her husband receives a parish. She quickly wins the love of the Hutsuls, but does not find happiness in an unwed marriage. Her heart is captured by the charismatic leader of the Opryshki, Dmytro Marusyak. But will she be able to find the love of her dreams with him? Will the evil nature of the Opryshki get in the way?
