The first edition of Hnat Khotkevych's story The Stone Soul was published in 1911. It was under him that the publication of this book was carried out. In this edition, the peculiarities of the Hutsul dialect have been preserved as much as possible, and many removed fragments of the text from the Soviet editions are returned.
"The Stone Soul" is a story about how love can not just change, but determine people's destinies. Some get the opportunity to correct their mistakes made under its influence, and some are led to a fatal end; some love sincerely and devotedly, and some only play with other people's feelings; some are ready to die for their love, and some are ready to kill.
Marusia, a young girl, having arrived with her husband and mother-in-law in Kryvorivnia, where the priest was given a parish, meets Dmytro, the leader of Opryshks, and falls in love with him. But will this love bring her happiness?
