"When I fall, <...> my blood will be drunk by the native land to grow grass with it for the horse of the one who will take my place."
At the beginning of the 20th century, a rebel army was formed in Cherkasy region, which quickly grew into the Kholodnoyarsk Republic.
The peasants and the descendants of the Cossacks united to prevent either the Bolsheviks or the Denikinians from entering their territory. The armed resistance was so well organized that well-armed entire divisions formed from local residents went against the invaders. Yurii Gorlis-Gorskyi was a participant in these events, who described them in the novel "Cold Yar".
The author depicts the armed clashes with the Reds and the underground work of the Ukrainian rebels, the Cheka's secretaries and subversive work against the Soviet government, as well as the life of soldiers and bravery, patriotism and relationships, adventures, humor and struggle to the last.
