Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko is an outstanding figure whose words speak the soul of the Ukrainian people. His "Kobzar" is one of the best assets of our literature, and the works themselves have been translated into more than a hundred languages of the world. The appearance of the collection in April 1840 became a landmark event not only in Ukrainian, but also in Slavic literature in general.
The published texts are compared with the original manuscripts and contemporary editions of the poet's works. The collection is illustrated with reproductions of paintings and sketches by Taras Hryhorovych.
