Elfriede Jelinek (born 1946) is a famous Austrian novelist, playwright, poet and literary critic, winner of the 2004 Nobel Prize in Literature. One of the most provocative writers of the 20th century. In 2012, Folio published E. Jelinek's novel The Pianist.
"Mistresses" (1975) is one of the best works of the Austrian writer. This is a harsh and objective story about two completely opposite female destinies in the modern world. Brigitte and Paula are two girls, one from the city, the other from the countryside, but for both of them, love, family and sex are only means to get through life, a life in which each of them will have high "purchasing power."
