Ken Wilber is a modern American philosopher and spiritual leader, the founder of the so-called integral method, designed to combine the achievements of Western rationalism and Eastern mysticism. “A Brief History of Everything” is the author’s most popular book, and in the United States it has survived twenty reprints. Do not let the frivolous title mislead the reader: under the cover is a serious philosophical reflection on the contradictory paths by which humanity has developed in the psychological, emotional, intellectual, moral and spiritual planes.
Wilber’s idea boils down to the fact that the Western tradition does not cover the entire existential experience of man, and therefore does not cope with the role of the sole source of questions and answers. Wilber acts as a demystifier, a subtle critic of teachers, methods, ideas and systems that promise to lead to the truth, but turn out to be incomplete or false. Metaphorically speaking, he introduces Buddha to Freud and offers an alternative view of human spiritual evolution.
“A Brief History of Everything” shows the world in an original perspective and offers answers to pressing questions of our time – about the changing roles of men and women, about environmental destruction, about diversity and multiculturalism, about repressed memory and sexual abuse of children, about the role of the Internet in the information age and much more.
