“Beautyland” is a literary fantasy novel about a radical sense of otherness, loneliness, and an attempt to make contact with a world that has never felt like home. Ironic and painfully accurate, this text explores what it means to be human in a society where emotions, bodies, and communication increasingly fail.
The novel’s main character, Adina Giorno, is born on the day of the launch of the Voyager 1 spacecraft and has been convinced since childhood that she is not from Earth. She observes humanity as an alien civilization, sending her reports of fears, strange habits, violence, and rare acts of tenderness via fax, the only stable channel of communication with the world.
