A chance meeting between Ludwik and Janusz by the river in a summer agricultural camp develops into a passionate romance. Having found themselves in a beautiful natural world, far from society and prejudices, Ludwik and Janusz fall in love. But in a society brutally divided into repressive communist and Catholic ideologies, the passion they share is completely unthinkable.

The summer of love is coming to an end. Janusz quickly rises in the party ranks and receives a position in the ministry. Ludvik is drawn to impulsive acts of protest, he cannot ignore the economic inequality around him. A secret love and personal political differences tear them apart as both men struggle to survive in a regime on the brink of collapse.
