In this collection, you will find four dramas by Lesya Ukrainka, which have entered the canon of Ukrainian literature. Each of them is filled with its own meanings and occupies its own special place in the life and work of the writer.

Lesya Ukrainka considered the dramatic poem "Cassandra" one of her best creations, fearing that nothing more powerful would come out of her pen.

"Boyarynia" was written in four days - Lesya Ukrainka's only drama based purely on Ukrainian history - and was never printed during the author's lifetime.

Through the interpretation of the well-known story about Don Juan in "The Master of the Stone", Lesya Ukrainka presented the image of a man-seducer through the eyes of a woman for the first time in world literature.

And the tender "The Forest Song", the popularity of which surprised even the author herself. The story is inspired by childhood memories of Volyn forests and myths but with much deeper layers - the motif of "art for art's sake", feminist issues, and sexuality.

About the Gift Classic series

The Gift Classic series will include the most famous works of Ukrainian literature. In this series, the emphasis is on the aesthetics of the publication — elafin binding with silver embossing, lassé, thick paper, and colored endpapers. Each edition will be supplemented with two articles from well-known artists, critics, and experts. One of them is an explanation of the text and its place in Ukrainian literature by well-known literary experts. The second article is about how the classic text was still embodied in other genres of art - in cinema, theater, and painting. What is special about the film production "Shadows" by Serhii Paradzhanov? Why did the modern TV series "To Catch the Kaidash" affect the audience so much? How did theater directors rethink the works of Ivan Franko and Lesya Ukrainka?
