The novel "Summer Rains" by the Egyptian writer Ahmad al-Karmalawi, awarded the prestigious Sheikh Zayed Book Award in 2018, is a masterful example of modern Arabic artistic prose.
The composition of the novel consists of several storylines that, combined, tell about the apocryphal legacy of the Sufi sheikh Ibad al-Mosuli. Arriving in Egypt from Iraq, he gathered supporters of the oud, a traditional Middle Eastern musical instrument, and founded a Sufi order where music is a way of mystical knowledge of the world. No one knows for sure whether Sheikh al-Mosuli really existed or whether he is a historical hoax. The story brings the reader back to the present, to the hot and noisy streets of Cairo, among which, like an oasis of peace and piety, the al-Mosuli Agency is located.
All the heroes of the work are united by a passion for music. However, everyone loves her in their own way. This is where the main conflict of the novel arises, observing the development of which the reader finds himself in the center of an exciting confrontation.
A colorful historical background, acute social problems, a detective element, psychologism of images, and a multifaceted plot, all this is the novel "Summer Rains".
