A turning point in Ukrainian historical fiction. That's what the researchers called the work "Lyudolov".
Having primarily conceived it as a biography of Hetman Sagaidachny, Zinaida Tulub eventually unfolded before the reader a much larger epic canvas. Nobility, senior officers and free Cossacks of the Wild Field. Everyday struggle for one's rights and Cossack expeditions to distant lands.
In the first volume, we meet Pyotr Sahaidachny, returning from a campaign, in the house of his fiancée Nastya. A terrible test falls on the fate of the lovers: the girl is kidnapped and enslaved by the Tatars during another raid. Personal stories are interwoven with outstanding historical events — the founding of the Kyiv Brotherhood, the organization of a printing house at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, and plans for the campaign to Kaffa. The author depicts a multi-layered panorama of the life of the 17th century in Ukraine.
