Letters from a cold land

The main character of the novel "Letters from the Cold Land" (2003) by the Belgian author Caroline Lamarche is a young writer who, having received a prize for her poetry collection, tries to continue her success - she takes on writing a screenplay for a movie. However, her poetry arouses the curiosity of the young Alexis, who is prone to suicide. He begins to write letters to the narrator, evoking a wave of memories and sad allusions in her memory. Torn between the iconic figures of the artist Frida Kahlo and the Hollywood actress Dorothy Gale, the narrator finally gets lost in the emotional triangle between her long-time love, the bisexual ladies' man Lou, and the unfortunate Alexis, who is always on the verge of suicide.
