“Do not pretend to study philosophy, but really study it: for we must not pretend to be healthy, but truly be healthy,” the mysterious Greek philosopher Epicurus encourages us. For the first time, the Ukrainian reader gets the opportunity to try out a book that history has managed to save and bring to our days. Famed as a hedonist, Epicurus really cared most about living life in pleasure, and he also taught others to do so.
However, the path to pleasure, in his understanding, does not lie through the supermarket. Epicurus prescribes recipes for true pleasure, although not always legibly, as is often the case with recipes. The translator’s preface and afterword should help to correctly understand these recipes.
