The second book of the novel is devoted to the events of the life of the young Osman II in the first years of his reign. It deals with palace intrigues and the struggle of dignitaries for influence over the inexperienced sultan, who had serious political and military ambitions. What role did Osman II's beloved wife, the Ukrainian Meleksim, play in the maelstrom of these events? And how did the powerful women Kösem and Halime, who ruined Valide Mahfiruz, feel in the Old Palace? All this is told in the second book of the novel.
