Emil Nägeli heads to Nazi Germany, where he is implicated in a plot to build a celluloid axis between Tokyo and Berlin. Unaware of his involvement in such a plot, he heads to Japan. There he is met by the secret organizer of this trip, Masahiko Amakasu, and his beloved German bride Ida, who has ended up here for unknown reasons. Together, the three attend a Noh theater performance, and in the meantime, an attempt is made on the prime minister's life at his residence. In reality, the rebels expected to meet Charlie Chaplin, who is currently touring the country, and by removing him from the movie scene, avoid the influence of American culture on Japanese life.
These events inspire Nägeli to create an avant-garde film with the same title as this book, and the roles in it are played by the beloved director and the secret organizer of his visit. But at what price will each of them gain fame and recognition? Or maybe someone will suffer oblivion or fall into oblivion...
